Wilmond - Company History
- 1947 Company established in Hitchin as
precision engineers
- 1950 Moved to purpose built premises in
Bury Mead Road
- 1957 Production of Solode boat trailers
commences. These trailers were used by the British Yachting team in the 1968
Mexico Olympics
- 1970 Towbar manufacture commences and a
fitting service offered. The company quickly establishes a reputation for
expert towbar fitting with both local car dealers and the public. Precision
engineering is scaled down.
- 1971 Camping trailers added to range of
trailers manufactured
- 1980 Company expands range of towing
equipment. Appointed main dealer for PCT Leisure Towbars-now one of
their largest dealers. Range of trailer components introduced allowing
customers to build and repair their own trailers. Car transporter &
motorcycle trailer production starts. Precision engineering ceases.
- 1980-1990 Range of towing equipment stocked
gradually increased. Brands such as Peak, Dixon-Bate, Bulldog, &
Watson Jones are also added to the range of products.
- 1990 Gradual introduction of caravan and
camping accessories to complement towing equipment.
- 1998 Appointed stockists of Brink and
Witter towbars allowing company to offer a complete range of towbars from
the popular flange bars to the top of the range Brink-matic detachable
towbar.
- 2001 RDF Eurobars now available in a
variety of different coupling arrangements - fixed, detachable, flange ball.
- 2001 We are appointed distributors of the
excellent value for money Trelgo and Franc range of trailers
- 2002 Additional premises are acquired
allowing us to offer vehicle servicing & repair and MOTs
- 2003 We are accepted as members of the National
Trailer & Towing Association.
- 2004 We are appointed agents for the Lynton
range of trailers. Distribution of the Nomad range of trailers
commences
- 2004 NTTA Quality Secured status
achieved.
- 2007 Koolway Vehicle Air-Conditioning
becomes a member of the Wilmond group of companies. We are now able to
service and repair vehicle air conditioning systems.
- 2008 Appointed distributors for the new
Tuffrack range of van roof racks
